New Colgate Senior Lecturer Appointed: University of Otago
Colgate is proud to announce that, on Feb 1, Dr. John Boyens began his new role at Otago as the Colgate Senior Lecturer in Periodontology and Oral Health. John will be involved in the academic and clinical teaching of the periodontology postgraduate programme, and the BOH programme (dental hygienists and therapists), and in clinical teaching of the BDS (dentists) programme at final year level.
John graduated with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Otago; he practiced as a general dentist for 20+ years, beginning in Hawke's Bay as a House Surgeon, then spending 2 years in the UK, again returning to beautiful Hawke's Bay. Later, he moved to Dunedin to begin his MDS training in periodontology (which he completed in 2001). Subsequently he practiced his specialty in Dunedin and taught part-time at the University of Otago. John has taken an active role in New Zealand's dental profession as an NZDA Board Member (Hawkes Bay and Otago representative), and Board representative on Executive. He is currently one of the two elected NZDA executive officers.
I am very pleased that someone of John's calibre has been appointed to this position.
