Teaching Oral Care Young Wins An iPad!
Monique Roser's involvement in the care of her daughter's teeth has won her an iPad. The photograph titled "Teaching Oral Care Young" was chosen as the winning photograph by the Hon Peter Dunne, Associate Minister of Health.
The photo competition was part of New Zealand Dental Association's World Oral Health Day (WOHD) promotion. Every year 12 September is celebrated as WOHD by the World Dental Federation (FDI) and national dental associations around the world. "This day is the perfect opportunity to raise public awareness about oral health", says Dr David Crum, Executive Director of the NZDA. "The focus for this day is prevention as most dental diseases are preventable," he added.
The healthy smiles photo competition was used by the Dental Association to deliver key oral health messages in a fun and appealing way. Public were asked to submit photos that demonstrated one of the three steps required to maintain good oral health
- Effective home oral care
- Healthy eating
- Regular dental visits
Associate Minister Dunne was impressed with the entries, particularly, with the enthusiasm of all children brushing their teeth and playing dentists! "The winning photograph stood out the most for me. It gets to the heart of what we want to see happening in our communities," he said.
The winner Monique Roser from Tauranga is thrilled to win an iPad. She is looking forward to using the iPad not only for her personal use but also to help develop her technology skills as a teacher when she returns to work in the near future.
The prize for this photo competition was kindly donated by Colgate.
